OTTUMWA YMCA Discovery Lane & The Ottumwa Legacy Foundation

Legacy-Discovery LaneOTTUMWA FAMILY YMCA – Ottumwa, IA.    On August 31, 2020, the Ottumwa Family YMCA Discovery Lane Early Learning Center Expansion Project was recognized by Ms. Amy Nossaman of the Ottumwa Legacy Foundation.  The Child Care Leadership Team, Teresa Sammons, Loni Ellis, & Donna Ross, accepted a check for $10,000.00.  The unexpected gift will be applied to the design phase of a much needed renovation and expansion of the current childcare facilities at 611 N. Hancock.  Said Ms. Sammons, Director of Discovery Lane, “I am very excited to be a part of this exciting possibility of an expansion of our Y Discovery Lane Learning Center to help those many families that are in need of a safe and caring environment in a learning atmosphere for their most important asset: their child!”   It is hoped continued support of community leaders like the Ottumwa Legacy Foundation will aid in leveraging the approximately $500,000.00 which is needed.  Currently the facility is providing child care to roughly 110 youth and their families.  The proposed YMCA project will expand that number beyond 150, making Discovery Lane one of the largest, state-licensed childcare providers in Ottumwa and the surrounding area.
